About implementation training and events

We are working with sector partners the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI), Taituarā, Te Uru Kahika and the Resource Management Law Association (RMLA) to deliver webinars and interactive events and workshops.

These events will provide practical training and guidance, and give attendees the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences and work through challenges.  Events are free and open to all practitioners. We have strong relationships across the sector and systems in place to identify and respond to common implementation issues.

Events will help practitioners understand:

what is changing
how the new system differs from the existing RMA framework
the practical implications for their work.

As the new system develops, we’ll provide more detailed training and support.

Planning system webinars

We are developing a free webinar series to help build understanding of the new planning system. NZPI will host sessions for planning professionals, while Taituarā will host sessions for local government leaders and managers.

These events will provide detailed training and advice, and give practitioners the opportunity to ask questions and work through challenges together.

Past events

We have already held two webinars to support readiness for transitional consenting. They focused on the scope of effects reduction, specifically the section 104(1A), section 104AA and section 76A RMA changes.

Regional spatial planning workshops

In July and August 2026, NZPI and Taituarā delivered a series of one-day workshops around New Zealand to support understanding and build readiness for regional spatial planning.

There were two streams: the Taituarā stream focussed on governance and leadership arrangements, and the NZPI stream focussed on the spatial planning information and concepts set out in the draft Planning Bill.
